11 Days Amdo Monlam Festival

Xining, the northern east frontier of Tibet Plateau, it well represents the rich mixture of local ethnicity and offers a wide range of sights. You will be picked up from airport or train station and transferred to hotel by our local representative.

Accommodation: Xining

Heading to Repkong and en-route we will visit Youning Gongpa. We will pay stop at Sengge-shong villages to visit two small monasteries which are famously known for it’s artistic skills of Buddhist Thangka paintings. Additionally, we are visiting Rongwo Monastery, the greatest monastery in the very region.
We will witness a giant painting or embroidery of the Buddha Thangka displaying on a slope of hill to bless to a huge crowd of pilgrimages at Gormar Gonpa.
During this festival, the specially trained monks perform Cham (Dance). Cham said to be initiated by the fourth Panchen Lama. These performances are considered to be as sacred ritual activities not as an entertainment. The masked performers are dressed with spectacular richly ornamented multicolored costumes and dance with specific music, chants. The Tibetans believe that this performances transmit healing powers from the deities through the dancers symbolic hand gestures.

Overnight 4 nights home-stay in nearby Village

Labrang monastery considered as the largest Buddhist school in Amdo. During Tibetan New Year, there will be more population than usual. This monastery integrated with locals, conduct big ritual activities successively from 10th of the New Year to 16th day. People from far and near with different traditions gather in front monastery to witness all the ritual activities day after day. We can join to unveiling a giant Buddha applique on the opposite hill of the monastery, which is composed with chanting, playing ritual instruments, and carry forth and to by hundreds of monks with the escort by the local guidance.
This magnificent will be your first time to have a look and learn. In the following day, there is Cham Perfomance with monks chanting. Upon that, we could see artistically handmade butter statues (Metok Choepa) of different Tibetan Buddhist Scholars to introduce to the pilgrimages. This sort of ritual activities bring lots of people from different tribes together, therefore it is a good opportunity for you to witness different tradition of Tibetans in East of Central Tibet. The ritual activities continue, but we are continuing our journey back to Xining.

Overnight: Labrang

On the way back to Xining, we will visit the birth place and the family house of 10th Panchen Lama. Enjoy the ritual activities in Weido monastery such as chanting with monks and we are spending one night with locals here. The following day, we will drive to Xining.
