Yushu belongs to Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It is in the East of Central Tibet. Yushu Horse Racing Festival is one of the most popular festival in the Eastern Tibet. This area is a huge nomadic region and horse racing is being a popular sports in this region. Yet, this Summer Horse Racing is particularly famous as it brings many horse racers together and organizes various cultural performances from different areas of Yushu. Apart from the, Yushu Horse Race Festival, Yushu was is linked with the traditions of the ancient Kingdom of Kham. Therefore, Tibetans from all over the Kham region gather here for traditional sport, song, dance and costume show competition at different occasions. For that reason, Yushu is also known as the Cultural Center of Khampa.
This festival is celebrating for 2 days and after that we are going to explore some of untouched beautiful landscapes of Kham.
This year, the festival starts from July 25th, all our group members are requested to arrive at the Yushu by July 24th
Note: This Tibet group tour starts from Yushu and finish at Chengdu.

Today, our guide will escort you towards the Festival spot. The Qinghai Yushu Horse Racing Festival is a traditional festival and it is organizing in every year after year. July is the most favourable weather in this region and you can take pleasure natural green carpets, wild flowers and camping.

We are spending one more day to enjoy the famous Yushu Horse Race Festival. You will be guided by our local guide throughout so it is up to you that how much make him/ her more useful.

Actually, 2 days are not enough to enjoy this Festival yet there are more to explore beyond Yushu. We are leaving Yushu after our breakfast to Dzachuka through beautiful scenes and special places to pay visit to make our trip more fun. First, we are pausing at Sershul Gonpa(Sershul Monastery), the largest Gelugpa monastery in Kham region. You will admire it’s preservation of Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy scripts and architectures of the temples. Secondly, we are visiting Palge Mani, which is a huge pile of carved Mani on Stones, which is 1.6km long, 3meters wide and tall. This Stone Mani is originally built by Palge Rinppoche Sangmei Gyatso in 17th Century. Then, we are taking rest at Sershul tonight.

This morning, we are setting off to Dzokchen. On the way, we are visiting Shechen monastery which is founded by Shechen Rabjam Tenpé Gyaltsen in 1695. According some other references, it is recorded that the monastery is built by Gyurme Kunzang Namgyal in 1734. After discovering this mysterious monastery, we are moving towards Dzokchen monastery.
Dzokchen monastery is one of the six most important monasteries in Kham and you can take pleasure with is beautiful landscape. It is founded by Pema Rigdzin, the 1st Dzogchen Rinpoche (1625-1697) in 1675. This great monastery issituated in the North of Dege County. It’s the root of “Great Perfection”, also known as “Atiyoga” in Nyingmaapa Tradition.

After breakfast, we are leaving to Derge, the ancient cultural and wisdom center of Kham. You will definitely enjoy beautiful valleys of forests and gushing rivers. You will also spot several beautiful small villages, Stupa, monasteries, group of pilgrims, stone carved Buddhist scripts and images. This evening, we will be exploring a busy Tibetan market where you can learn different tribes of the people in the same region.

This morning, our guide will escort you to Dzongsar Monastery, which was built in the year of 746. This monastery is famously known for it’s well preservation of Tibetan Buddhist Scriptures. The current lama for this monastery is a world- known teacher, His Eminence, the Dzongsar Jamyang Kyentse. In the late afternoon, we are visiting a local Handicrafts Center where to learn the skills of local laymen.

Our trip continues to Garze a Tibetan town surrounded by beautiful scenery. This town specially attracted by the photographers different architecture of monasteries and nunneries and the wonderful landscapes of different villages. We are visiting Garze monastery in the afternoon, which has 500 years of history. If you are interested, we can have a hot spring shower in the evening.

You will be fascinated by the scenery on our way to Barkham. Barkham is the capital city of Ngawa Tibetan Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, a modern Tibetan town with a population of 59,000.

After your breakfast, we are driving away to Chengdu which is 6 hours drive. This long drive will be smooth and enjoyable as road is well constructed and you will spot beautiful landscapes throughout the way. This evening, you can explore the city by your own. You may meet English speaking shopkeepers, vendors and the like. You can could enjoy any Western cuisines and coffee as this is a big city.
