Lithang Horse Race Festival is well known throughout Tibet. During this festival, all the most talented riders attend the race and show off their talents. The horse racing festival celebrations was canceled for few years, but now it has been restarted recently.
Besides horse racing, there are various cultural performances and traditional activities held throughout the festival. This is one of the best opportunities to experience this region’s Tibetan nomadic lifestyles and their rich culture.
As for this year, Lithang Horse Racing festival schedule to start from Aug 1st. Therefore, our group members are requested to arrive at Chengdu by July 29th

Our representative will greet you at airport/ train station and transfer you to your Hotel. Since, Chengdu quite environmentally friend to you yet Tomorrow you are elevating to Laghang. So, we suggest you to take a good rest at your hotel room and drink lots of water.

Thereafter your breakfast, our guide will receive you from the hotel lobby and drive towards a sacred place of Tibetan Buddhism, Lhaghang Monastery. Lhaghang is set around 3750 meters above the sea level, it is a Sakya monastery. This monastery is built by King Songtsan Gampo during 7th century and it’s main epic is Boddhi Shakyamuni. You could learn many untold stories from our local knowledgeable guide.

Litang is situated almost 6 hours from Tagong yet you will enjoy beautiful landscape between Yajiang and Litang. Litang is famously known in Tibet as it is the birthplace of the 7th Dalai Lama.

The horse race in this area is more like a parade as the riders already decorated their strong horses with beautiful ornaments and during the racing, there will be shooting, picking white scarves from the ground and the like. You can enjoy every single move of the riders.

This morning too, we are going to watch the thrilling Horse Race after the breakfast. In the afternoon, we are visiting aged long historical epic Litang monastery, which is built by 3rd Dalai Lama in 1580.

In the afternoon, trip continues to Nyakrong to visit Tsoka lake. This is a beautiful lake surrounded by amazing landscape and a village. We can also pay a visit to Tsoka monastery. This monastery was built in the year of 1358 by lama Purba Denzin.

Trip continues from quite early in the morning to visit Yachen Monastery (Yachen Orgyen Samten Choeling) founded by Akhyuk Rinpoche in 1980. This monastery is situated in an isolated valley which is 4000m above sea level. This monastery looks more amazing by Dzin Chu River which flows through the monastery giving it a beautiful curving shape. More than 10,000 monks and mostly nuns are being in this monastery and it ranks the second largest Buddhist Institute at the present time. We will reach to Payul by dawn.

This morning, our guide will escort you to Dzongsar Monastery, which was built in the year of 746. This monastery is famously known for it’s well preservation of Tibetan Buddhist Scriptures. The current lama for this monastery is a world- known teacher, His Eminence, the Dzongsar Jamyang Kyentse. In the late afternoon, we are visiting a local Handicrafts Center where to learn the skills of local laymen.

Our trip continues to Garze a Tibetan town surrounded by beautiful scenery. This town specially attracted by the photographers different architecture of monasteries and nunneries and the wonderful landscapes of different villages. We are visiting Garze monastery in the afternoon, which has 500 years of history. If you are interested, we can have a hot spring shower in the evening.

You will be fascinated by the scenery on our way to Barkham. Barkham is the capital city of Ngawa Tibetan Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, a modern Tibetan town with a population of 59,000.

After your breakfast, we are driving away to Chengdu which is 6 hours drive. This long drive will be smooth and enjoyable as road is well constructed and you will spot beautiful landscapes throughout the way. This evening, you can explore the city by your own. You may meet English speaking shopkeepers, vendors and the like. You can could enjoy any Western cuisines and coffee as this is a big city.
