The Eastern face of Mt. Everest trek is quite special with only a few people trekking in this region in a year. A journey through the Kharta Valley, passing through several other verdant tiny valleys along the way which are dotted with beautiful lakes on the way to the Kangshung face, the Eastern face of the Mt. Everest. We will be covering Everest(8848m), Lhotse(8501m), and Makalu(8463m) which are three of the five world’s highest peaks.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Lhasa

Our guide will greet you at airport/ train station and transfer you to your Hotel. Our staff will give you a brief orientation about this trip and the rest of the day will be your own to take rest. We suggest you to drink lots of water and take a good rest at your hotel room to avoid from altitude sickness and dehydration.

Day 2Lhasa: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Street

The first four days of this trip is for acclimation and avoid jet-lag including Yesterday. This morning, we are visiting Potala Palace for a detail learning about this magnificent building’ s architect and stories and followed by visiting mystery Jokhang temple. Have a look around Barkhore Street to enjoy different artifacts, spiritual equipment and the global visitors to this Holy City, Lhasa.

Day 3Lhasa: Drepung & Sera Monasteries, Ramoche Temple

Right after your breakfast, our guide will escort you to visit Drepung and Sera Monasteries which are the biggest and oldest Gelugpa sect’s monasteries from many other monasteries. Ramoche Temple is another essence to this day.

Day 4Lhasa - Shigatse (Yamdro Lake, Karola Glacier, Gyantse)

After your breakfast, we are moving forward to Shigatse through beautiful Yamdrok Lake, Karola Glacier and Gyantse Pekor Choede Monastery. You will get to feel the authenticity of every spots mentioned and enough time to explore around. This evening we would reach to Shigatse where your hotel has booked.

Day 5Shigatse - Shegar - Kartha

We are driving towards Shegar after your morning breakfast and then to Khartha. At Kartha valley, you will meet your Yaks and Yak men to support your camping and trekking.

Day 6Trek Day 1: Yulba - Lhundrup Ling

With the yaks loaded with our stuffs, we are starting our trekking. Today, we are making trek between wonderful Yulba and Lhundrup Ling. Yulba sits on a small rise above the Khara Chu (Kharta River). We are camping tonight at Lhundrup Ling.

Day 7Trek Day 2: Lhundrup Ling - Tso Damnama

The trek will progress towards Tso Damna after leaving Lhundrup Ling. This evening we are holding a camp at Tso Damnama.

Day 8Trek Day 3: Tso Damnama - Langma la Pass

Trek day 3 leads to Langma la Pass which is elevated 5200 meters above sea level. The Langma La is a rocky cliff with sheer sides and it would be quite difficult trek yet difficulties would pay you to view wonderful amphitheater of jagged peaks and glaciers. Make sure that you have packed warmer clothes in these high altitude camps and treks.

Day 9Trek Day 4: Langma La Pass - Pethang

After climbing down from Langma la Pass, you would spot a lovely area with grassy meadow and meandering streams. Then, turn right here up the Karma Chu valley to Pethang, a grassy plain with stone huts for herders. Overnight camping with herders.

Day 10Trek Day 5: Pethang - Pethang Ringmo - East phase of Everest Base

In about 2 hours climbing West up to the Karma valley, in about 2 hours, Mt. Everest comes to your eyes for the firs time. On the left, a few kilometers away, is Chomo Lonzo (7,815m) and behind it, the multi-peaked Makalu. In about 3 hours, we reach to the East Phase of Everest Base camp (5,000m). From here you can take pleasure from this wide grassland with stunning views of Mt. Everest (8,848m) and Lhose (8,516m) in the left is known as Pethang Ringmo.

Day 11Trek Day 6: Pethang Ringmo - Thango

Stroll down to Thango from Pethang Ringmo. Sweat with ravishing view of Pethang Ringmo and Thango. Tonight camping at Thango. Enjoy the stars and have a good rest.

Day 12Trek Day 7: Thango - Tso Churuma

After climbing against to harsh and rocky mountains and slowing towards beautiful valleys, Today we are destined to reach Tso Churuma (Churuma Lake). Camp at the shore of this beautiful untouched lake.

Accommodation: Tsu Churuma

Day 13Trek Day 8: Tso Churuma - Langma La pass - Lhundrup Ling

From Today, we are tracing back to the base. We are trekking down towards Lhundrup Ling village passing by Langma La Pass. Camping at Lhundrup Ling village for the night.

Day 14Trek Day 9: Lhundrup Village - Yulba

The trail continues north to the Kharta valley at Yarbu. Turn right along the right bank of he Kharta River to get back to Yueba for overnight camping. Today would be an easy descent for few hours and was the end of the adventurous Kartha Valley Trek.

Day 15Kartha - Rongbuk Monastery

Drive from Yueba to Rongbuk monastery (5,200m), which is the highest monastery in the world. It takes 6 hours drive to Rongbuk to view the North face of the Mt. Everest (8,848 m).

Day 16Short Hike at Mt. Everest & Drive to Shigatse

Don’t let this chance to slip out to hike one and half hours against Mt. Everest base camp at early in the morning to make this trip more memorable. Lunching at Everest Base Camp and driving back to Shigatse.

Day 17Shigatse - Lhasa

We are heading off to Lhasa after your breakfast. This is quite a long yet soothing drive along the Yanrlung Tsangpo River.

Day 18Departure to your Homeland
