Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Lhasa

Our guide will be greeting you at airport/ train station and transfer you to. Now, you are at in the holy city Lhasa yet we suggest you to drink lots of water and take a good rest at your hotel room to avoid altitude sickness and dehydration. Adventures are lying head so get prepared!

Overnight:Lhasa

Day 2Lhasa: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Street

In the morning, you are visiting the cultural heritage Potala Palace which is built in 7th century and later rebuilt by 5th Dalai Lama. After lunch, pay visit to the holiest temple in Tibet, the Johkang Temple, built during king Songtsen Gonpo’s reign by princess Wencheng and its famous Barkor Street, where you can appreciate traditional Tibetan artifacts, religious implements, antiques, books, Tibetan music instrument, Thangkas, tradition Tibetan clothes and ritual activities around.

Day 3Lhasa: Drepung & Sera monasteries

After breakfast, we will to visit Drepung Monastery, which is situated at the foothill of a mountain and was founded by Jamyang Choeje in 1416. It was once home for 10000 monks. Drepung has became famous since after Gaden Podrang was initiated there by 5th Dalai Lama until the administration shifted to Potala Palace. After having lunch, trip continues to visit the Sera Monastery, which was founded in 1419 by Tsongkapa’s disciple Jamchen Choeje. The most interesting of this monastery is Buddhist monks’ debating held during the afternoons in their courtyard.

Day 4Lhasa – Gyantse (Yamdro Lake, Gampala & Karo La Pass)

Today, we are heading off to Gyantse, start of the Western Tibet Plateau along with the upstream of Barmaputra River. We would be driving through two elevated passes Gampa la (4900m) and Karola. From the elevation of Gampa la, we can view the breathtaking holy Yamdro lake which is lying in the lap of snow capped Mt. Nyenchen Kangsar. Then further to Gyantse to venture in the cultural town, specially the Pekor Sutpa (or Gyantse Pekor Choede). The stupa has age long history and many are attracted by it’s architecture and old paintings in the inner walls.

Day 5Gyantse - Shigatse (3900m), 90km, approx 1.5hrs)

Driving far beyond Gyantse after a good breakfast as cultural heritage, successive Panchen Lama’s, Tashi Lhunpo monastery at Shigatse. Shigatse is the second largest city in Central Tibet and it’s tradition and culture quite different from what you observed in Lhasa. If time permits, we are visiting Dechen Podrang (Dechen Palace) the Summer palace for Panchen Lamas and it is also a picnic spot for the lay people.

Day 6Shigatse-Yangpachen-Namtso lake (4600m), 380km, approx 8hrs

We are driving through beautiful villages and farmlands of Oyuk Valley and elevate to Shogula pass (5400) towards Yangpachen and Northern Nomadic Grasslands. These Northern Nomad Grasslands are known in Tibetan as Jangthang Drogpa (Northern Nomad). In these area, there are almost hundreds of beautiful lakes and Namtso (Sky Lake) is one among them. It is known as the world highest salty lake and it considered to be as a sacred. Enjoy the night’s cool breeze and peace.

Day 7Namtso Lake - Lhasa (3680m), 250km, approx 4hrs

This morning, we are driving back to Lhasa with a complete circuit of Namtso Lake. En-route, we are visiting a typical nomad family and going to learn about their lifestyle. You will definitely be happy to see their giant black tent made by Yak wool. The strongest characteristic of this tent is that it could resist water, wind and sun-heat. You can spend some time at their home and interact with them with the help of our guide. After returning back to Lhasa, it is your own unscheduled time to explore more or revisit your favourite spots.
